HK trip May 07 - Day 1

Finally got down to do the photos and what we did in HK in May! Here goes..


Took the early jetstar flight at 6.40am. Here's the view from the aeroplane window, about sunrise!

The seats are quite squeezy, request for emergency seats if you can. It's around rows 12-13, the seats are more spacious.

Reached HK airport after 4 squeezy hours of sleeping, tic-tac-toe, connect 4 ! There's no aerobridge at the HK airport and you will have to go onto the tarmac to take the bus to the airport building. Forgot to take a pic of the bus though. Be prepared to wait to clear immigration, it can take around 30-45 mins. Meanwhile be as patient as you cannnn....

We took the airport shuttle bus A21 from the airport into town. Cost us only about HKD 33, SGD $6. Somehow the bus reminded us about the Knight Bus in Harry potter? You can check where to alight here.

View along the way, but I couldn't get a good photo of Lantau Bridge. Ah!!! It's really quite awesome, you'll see what I mean when you get there.

Took us 45 mins to get into town area from Lantau Island where the airport is. We got off along Arygle St (Mongkok) and got lost for a while before a guy in business suit helped us out. We lugged and tugged our luggage for a good 20 mins, amidst very annoyed HK commuters, bumpy pedestrian crossings before we reached our hotel. On the way home, we got smarter and took the hotel shuttle bus to TST instead. Ha! Here's our hotel room.

and our first meal in HK at a cha can teng. Me: some instant noodles (ordinary...)but with very nice pork chop! YP: fish and chips. The milk tea is very good, in fact very good almost everywhere. You can taste BOTH the milk and the tea!

Ok recharged! We went exploring around Prince Edward area. Here's Flower Market Road, lots of florists here. Flowers are very cheap too!

There was also Gold Fish Market, or something like that, can't really remember. Lot's of aquariums and fishies here. But the fishes are all sold in plastic bags pumped with oxygen, quite poor things. Didn't dare to take a picture here, with all the shopkeepers looking.

Walked around somemore around Mongkok, and it proceeded into the evening. This was about 7 (or 8?) pm in HK (no time difference with Singapore).

Fa Yuen Street Market. A lots of cheap bags and shoes here. I counted about 4 shoes shops in a row!

We had dinner at one of the small eateries. Here's "yuan yang"soup, a mixture of red and green bean soup, porridge (very smooth!) and you tiao.

Here's mine, i copied exactly what the HK uncle sitting opposite me ate..hehe char siew chee cheong fun! very smooth!

Ladies Market! Nothing to buy here though, grossly overpriced.




Because my cantonese was really bad, I actually managed to bargain a bag from HKD 250 to HKD 150 (Yi3 means two in cantonese, not one!). Still quite overpriced in my opinion, leave shopping to do at Fa Yuen St market and Argyle Centre. Ha! Lots of imitation branded goods, but they only target the caucasians. So no worries!
